FOR THE PAST DECADE...
Parsons alumn M.K Komins has been passionately committed to the pursuit of creative excellence. Based out of Philadelphia, she draws inspiration from the collective consciousness of the city’s vibrantly diverse artistic community. Her work uses hyper-stylized, dreamy realism and boldly saturated color to explore the juxtaposition between the glamorous empowerment of identity and the fight for human acceptance.
M.K. has developed an experimental style of image making; painting broad, digital color, printing on canvas or giclee, then striping and manipulating the pigment with chemicals such as acetone to create tonal planes. She then builds back detail with layers of traditional paint mediums like acrylics and oils. The process is a practical application of her quest to explore and expose empathy; in order to rebuild a more honest construct of humanity, we must first be willing to destroy, re-approach, and rebuild our perspective.
With a vast and diverse range of skills, her client roster includes work with companies such as Titmouse Animation and Universal Studios, as well as large-scale creative collaborations with companies like Lord & Taylor and The Special Olympics.
Her work has been highlighted by Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Creative Debuts, Create! Magazine, and can be found in print in Brut Magazine, Create! Magazine, and Creative Bloch. M.K.’s art has been featured in galleries spanning from Los Angeles to London. For more information on upcoming shows and exhibitions, please visit the exhibitions page.
